The Eurovision Showcase platform was conceived and developed to provide a platform for media and content sharing within the European Broadcasting Union ecosystem – the largest union of television and media broadcasters in the world.
A proof of concept was developed using an agile methodology, built with Drupal open-source as the primary content management system, we developed a web frontend capable of ingesting uncompressed digital source material in any format, of any size, which them systematically tansferred to Amazon cloud storage and then transcoded into stream-ready codecs in variable bit-rates, before being returned to Cloudfront services for global distribution.
A complex meta-data and information schema was devised to support film, television and radio content in 57 languages. Given the volume and complexity of data, we deployed a dedicated search server, independent of the data store to speed interaction and enhance user experience.
The platform was made available to all members of the Union, and offered on as SaaS subscription basis to media distributors worldwide.
